Best Places To Buy Domain Names

When you purchase web hosting, you also need to buy at least one domain name to go along with it. For that, you should go through a domain registrar. Domain registrars are businesses that are allowed to sell top level domains (TLDs) like .com, .net, .org and/or country-code TLDs like .co.uk, .tv, .ly, etc.

There are many places domain registrars that you can buy domain names from, but two of the best are Godaddy and Namecheap.

Godaddy

Godaddy, is probably the most popular domain registrar. That’s because you see ads for them all over the place, including TV ads. There are a couple of nice things that Goaddy offers.

Godaddy Frontpage

First, it has some of the lowest prices I’ve seen for .com domains, often as low as $7.49 with a valid Godaddy coupon. Second, it has a really large selection of TLD extensions to choose from, like .co, .me, .tv and others. While these TLDs are not for everyone, it’s nice to be able to purchase them when you want to.

The downsides of using Godaddy are the constant upsells for additional products you may or may not need. This often makes the website hard to navigate around, especially when you are purchasing something. Still, many people don’t mind this, if they are getting the lowest price.

Namecheap

Namecheap is another popular domain registrar. While it doesn’t have the same name recognition of Godaddy, it’s quickly becoming the favorite registrar for a lot of people. Mostly because of its easy to use, nice clean interface.

Namecheap Front Page

While Namecheap’s domain prices might be slightly higher, it does offer a free year of WhoisGuard protection with every domain name purchase. This prevents your name and address from being shown when people try to lookup your domain using a Whois service.

Namecheap doesn’t offer many public coupon codes, but if you have more than 30 domains hosted with them, contact their support to get access to your own private Namecheap coupon code.
