WiredTree VPS Hosting Plans

WiredTree offers 3 VPS Hosting plans. Their cheapest package is their VPS512 plan which gives you 512MB RAM, 40 GB diskspace, and 1000 GB bandwidth and that starts at $49 a month. All of their VPS plans are fully managed. Servers run the latest CentOS Linux 5, and you get full root access.

To manage your VPS account, you’ll be given access to WiredTree’s proprietary client interface called Grove. From here, you can add new DNS zones when adding new domains to your account, monitor your server performance, restart your server and submit tickets.

My WiredTree Experience

I’ve been a WiredTree customer since March 2009, and they were the first VPS web host I had tried. At the time, I did not really understand what VPS hosting was all about, so I did a lot of reading on various forums like WebHostingTalk to figure out which vps hosting to choose. WiredTree consistently came up as one of the best VPS hosting companies, and one thing that everyone mentioned was how great their customer service was.

Since I’ve been with WiredTree, I’ve been pretty happy with them in general. I initially signed on with the VPS 384 plan, but 4 months later, I was upgraded to their VPS 512 plan for free which was really cool.

Customer support at WiredTree is fantastic. Initially, I had a ton of questions about setting up and configuring my VPS so I submitted a ton of questions to their tech support for help. Response times were always under 5 minutes or less which was great and the staff is very knowledgeable.

Recently however, it seems that WiredTree has been going through some growing pains. Over the past couple of months, they have experienced a power outage and a major DDoS attack which brought my sites down for several hours. I personally noticed that response times during these crisis periods were not as fast as normal. However, I have heard they are hiring more customer service staff to handle their rapid growth, so hopefully things will stabilize in the near future.

While these latest outages were annoying, I’ll probably keep sticking with WiredTree for the time being. They really have been quite good for the past 2 years so I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for now. If things change, I will definitely update this WiredTree review.
